Imprint glow

This is the first work in an ongoing series centered around windows – both literal and symbolic. It began with a small old window frame found on a walk in Etyek. Repainted in neon yellow and filled with TPU instead of glass, it now holds the printed shadows of the cherry tree that grows againts the wall or our family house at Lake Balaton. That shadow has become a kind of quiet achor – a recurring image I see each time I return home. 

The window, in this series, is not just an object. It becomes a frame for memory, a threshold between past and present, a soft filter for light, reflection, and belonging. 

In art history, the window has long represented both literal and metaphorical threshold.  Since the Renaissance, it has functioned as a framing device – a way of organizing visual space and perspective. In Leon Battista Alberti’s 15th-century writings, painting was described as “a window onto the world.” Yet over time, the window has evolved into something more layered: a symbol of longing, separation, memory, interiority, and the passage of time. 

In contemporary art, the window is often used to explore visibility and absence – what we see, what we remember, and what is framed out. In my work, the window becomes a soft, colorful surface – less about looking out, and more about looking through: memory, transparency, and emotional imprint. 

Each peace in the series will build on this feeling, using colorful materials, transparent layers, printed shadows, and textured imprints – capturing not only what’s seen through the window, but what remains impressed in us after we look. 

When light passes through the irridescent TPU,  it casts soft, shifting shadows-now made colorful. These shadows spill across surfaces, bringing unexpected movement and presence to the space. The image lives not only inside the frame, but also around it. In this way. the work becomes a quiet participant in its surroundings – fluid, luminous, alive.
